What She Said

While she wists she says:

"Perhaps if I sell my soul, I'll finally have a vessel for the unconcentrated atoms of passion that explode in on themselves with messy impotence. I feel like an athlete with nowhere to run. I chafe against the rope, and then realize I AM that rope, and am holding myself back through lack of practice and discipline. I just want to explode, and have the sheer fury of the explosion be beautiful, but instead it's just pathetic. All this frustration, just about art. To be able to see and not attain; to understand, yet never encompass well enough to make another understand, to forever have the anticipation, and never the fulfillment....ignorance is bliss. "

I have a friend from Nigeria who spent his first 20 years running track.  I asked him how long it would take to run the 400 meter dash in world class time, about 44 seconds.  He said:

If I train you now, you will go from wherever you are to about 46 seconds in 6 months.  Easily.  To go from 46 to 44 seconds [he laughs], you have to work really hard for that.  Maybe training twice each day for 9 months with the strictest training regiment.

"Under 44 seconds?", I ask...
