Of course you need fireworks.

Some people are a bit more interested in being close to the show than most of us.

___

A bit of searching turned up a nice catalog of fireworks ... some of these are amazing. It turns out George Plimpton wrote a great book (Fireworks: A History and Celebration, Doubleday, 1984) on the history of fireworks that dwells on the beauty and novelty of Japanese displays. An aside - the book has an interesting section on Plimpton's attempt at the world's largest firework with the assistance of the Grucci family and the Picatinny Arsenal.

And finally a bit of the chemistry and physics of fireworks. Blue-greens and forest greens are still a challenge. A decade ago bright blues were difficult, but that is clearly under control.
