For the time being the majority of my posting will probably take place on tingilinde. This won't be permanent, but I'm kicking the tires on other services.

Last night NPR mentioned McDonald's was expanding their wifi program. A search shows they even have a page with locations.

It isn't clear to me how much of this is real and how much is being eaten by their partners.

I wonder if anyone spent serious time thinking about what a hostile place a McDonald's is for any sort of work. Kids scurrying around, poor acoustics, grim seats that seem designed for encouraging short stays, lack of workspace and lack of power cords .. Airports, hotels and coffee shops are one thing, but fast food is another.

The usage numbers from Starbucks are apparently disappointing. I've heard anything from two to ten people a day for an average of an hour. Has anyone seen anyone actually using net in a wifi McDonald's?

For the current incarnation of wifi enabled devices this seems like a real dotbomb scheme.
