Progress on Priorities
On Sept. 30 I wrote about the need for priorities. The prioritization process that I mentioned then has been completed, and we have a spreadsheet that lists all of ITS's projects, including enterprise projects that we are involved in (excluding overhead stuff, things that are basic line of business activities, like maintaining power to the servers, etc). Scores relating to various factors have been assigned to those projects, and the total for each project is totaled up. The totals are sorted in descending order, with the project at the top being the most important to the organization, and therefore should be allocated the appropriate amount of resources.
We still have a few things to do to make this document meaningful to everyone in ITS. My boss has gone around to all the section managers and discussed the projects listed and the scores each project received, but I am unaware of any efforts to push the information down to the line workers. I'm sure I will help with any such efforts.
Also of concern is the fact that these priorities need to jive with the objectives that section managers have received from their boss. Additionally, ITS needs to verify that the priorities that we set jive with the cabinet's priorities, especially the chartered enterprise projects
