UMD/auth
Sorry my blogging has been so sporatic and substance-less lately. I've had my head down, banging out product requirements documents.
We have combined the web authentication and UMD projects into one. I am currently working on a draft of the PRD for them. A lot of people have submitted information to me for inclusion in the document. Combining them eliminates some redundancy in meetings, so it is a good idea. As I get deeper into the details of UMD and web authentication, my confidence increases in the possibility that we will be successful. UMD is really closer to being what we need than was my impression, and a lot of thought has gone into solving problems that have challenged us in the past. I believe that the requirements that I am capturing right now will get us 95% of the way there. I will also be checking with customers to ensure we are creating something they can use.
This is an interesting project due to the fact that niether UMD nor web authentication are really stand-alone products. We won't package them up and sell them by themselves. Instead, other products like web hosting and external applications will consume them. How do I do P&L for it then? I don't know yet.
