Sun and Apple not working on StarOffice for Mac. Companies refute reports [InfoWorld: Top News]

When I was at OSCON, I had dinner one night with Ed Peterlin and we talked a bit about what was needed for OpenOffice to become a 'native' Mac application. A couple of years of work is definitely aggressive especially if it just stays as two developers working on it.

Don't Use System.out.println!. So you already use log4j? I bet you could use it better if you read Vipan's guide to log4j - "Don't Use System.out.println!" An excellent read, with a lot of useful log4j tidbits and example configurations in it. [rebelutionary]

Heh.. You can pry println from my cold, dead hands.. Though I will say that it would really be nice to have the various levels of logging so you could keep your debugging breadcrumbs in the code if they are needed..

Mono 0.13 has been released -- This is a very important release since it was done entirely on Linux. 'No Windows were used in the release of this product'

Will Real feast where Apple failed? -- I think it's way too early to crown Real a winner after their announcement last week of open sourcing their streaming media server, especially since the code hasn't been dropped yet. It will be interesting to see though how many developers start working on it.

The major frustration in the article is the lack of knowledge of the various licenses which are used. To call the Apple Public Source License a rough equivalent to the GPL is just an awful bit of reporting with shoddy research. I'm sure a quick Google check would have brought back plenty of critiques of the Apple License and if I remember correct RMS wrote one of the first.
