Vignette, IBM Deliver New Content Tools

IBM this week debuted a new version of its enterprise-scale content management system, while Vignette Corp. said it has upgraded its platform for managing content across multiple Web sites and portals.
The two companies also said they are working together to make their Web-publishing and data-management solutions work more seamlessly together.
The new products come as new research from Jupiter Media Metrix questions whether companies are overpaying for content management, a finding that is sure to ruffle some feathers in this competitive market.
Vignette's latest release is a new version of its tool for managing content across multiple sites, such as an enterprise portal environment or a corporate Web site with a variety of sub-sites.
The new version of Vignette V6 Multisite Content Manager includes built-in analysis and reporting tools to help companies better target their online content. Other enhancements include a new staging environment, new search features, more options for content organization, and improved installation and configuration processes, Vignette said.
Publishing capabilities has become a hot battleground in the portal market, where users are beginning to feel the pain associated with maintaining multiple portal interfaces or channels. The interesting point is that since the Intranet sites by nature encourage distibuted publishing we need to make sure gain/maintain control. Hmmmm!
