Building a Highway to Entrepreneurial Resources

Last week, I interviewed Mark Solon of Highway 12 Ventures.  I was struck by how conscious Mark is of his firm's role in building bridges among the nascent entrepreneurial technology community in Boise, Idaho, the Intermountain West region, and the rest of the country.  The bridges are grounded in an understanding of (a) the lifestyle that attracts and holds area entrepreneurs and (b) the challenges growing companies face in the region:

  • Mark views his firm as a platform that enables connections between area startups and the somewhat surprising depth of executive experience that resides in Boise, in particular.
  • Enabled, in large part, by its strategic relationship with Village Ventures, Highway 12 can access out-of-region management and technology talent that values the lifestyle and opportunity offered by the region.
  • As a local, professional investment institution, Highway 12 can validate companies in the region in a way that allows promising regional companies to gain improved access to larger funds based in the technology and venture capital centers of Silicon Valley, Seattle, and Boston.

Listen to Mark (Audio) and come to your own conclusions.
