Things you only see at California State University, Long Beach during the summer months.

-Frat members skinny dipping in the Gold Mine pool at 2:30 pm with their 'sisters.'
-Watching money flushed down the toilet on construction to revamp the on-campus bar, The Nugget, instead of teachers' salaries for more classes.
-Fresh faced 18 year olds standing in line with their parents to pay tuition. The look of anguish and utter embarassment is also present.
-Faculty members stopping and starring at a redhead with a camera, taking shots of a demolished bar.

Added to the list of über cool songs: The Slits - Ping Pong Affair.

Edit: While shooting the super neat Portfolio Café, which you see above, two great things happened. By chance I ended up talking to the guy writing the actual article about the café for the Union and I scored a photo session. Some lady needs shots for a yoga pamphlet she's putting together. She was worried about the early a.m. shoot time. I started work at 6:15 am every single goddamn morning for 8 months. Don't worry about me. Just give me the gig and spread my name!

Via Anne:

  1. If you were going to the zoo, what's the first animal you'd go see? I'd see the horses and zebra. I love horses and I wish I owned a ranch with lots of space and some horses.

  2. Describe your most embarrasing hairstyle of years past. My mother thought that it would be 'unique' if I had an inverted Lucille Ball hairstyle when I was growing out my bangs. Long, flowing red hair and these huge circular bangs.

  3. Breakfast: waffles or pancakes? I don't do bread in the morning. Potatoes, every once in awhile. Cottage cheese for me, thanks. I don't like that full feeling in the morning, especially after you've eaten starch soaked with maple syrup.

  4. Extended family: small, average, large, or related-to-half-the-world? We're huge, but we never talk to each other. Pop's side doesn't speak to one another, Mom's side is on the East Coast. We're the freaks out in Cali-forn-i-a.

  5. What's the first song that ever really struck a chord with you, even if it doesn't now? I can't remember. I've listened to so much music in my lifetime, I would never be able to recall that far back. The earliest I could probably remember is somewhere around the age of 5 or 6 and watching my dad conduct a Rachmaninoff piece.
