I am just back from a week in Tokyo for work. Despite a busy schedule, I managed to do some shopping. I bought myself a new toy: a Sun UltraSparc 10. I found a nice boutique specialising in used *NIX system with a staff member speaking a bit of english and we managed to understand each other. I'll use this machine to explore 64-bits Gentoo Linux. The mchine as-is isn't ready yet (and it will be delivered only on Wednesday). I want to get a PCI hard disk controller to work around the limitations (9GB maximum size and 33 Mbits/sec maximum transfer rate) of the one that is on-board.
I also bought an 8-ports 1000Base-T switch to replace my 4-ports. I chose a Corega. It is a brand I know well and the price was just right (12800 yens). I also picked up a bunch of cat5E cables and four Gigabit Ethernet cards. This week I will finish upgrading my last two P133 to PII-350, upgrade the kernel of my linux machines to 2.4.25, change a couple of network cards and start to play with my Ultra.
