Ever since I returned to Sri Lanka (in August last year) I've been pushing to get developers here to participate in open-source projects. Yesterday I was in a video conf involving World Bank folks (including its CIO, who happens to be Sri Lankan!), SLSV, the Indian IT folks (NASSCOM) including its president Kiran Karnik and various folks from here (company types, govt. officials and others) about IT policy for the country, e-government and finally open-source stuff. Looks like there may be an opportunity to do some significant investment in open-source development from here .. stay tuned.
I've also been setting up an ASF style open-source organization here in Sri Lanka. More soon.
