[Item Permalink] Unlimited greed of the media companies -- Comment()
My column on the greed of the media companies appeared today (in Finnish, Kansalaiset häpeäpaaluun). Is there no limit to the machinations of the media industry? (Cf. Sony's rootkit, the proposal to use telecommunications data for tracking media use, etc.) What is going to happen to privacy and civil rights if the companies get what they are lobbying for?

[Item Permalink] PowerBook, Nokia 9500, and bluetooth -- Comment()
I got a question about using Nokia 9500 as a modem: "Found your posting on how easy it is to use the 9500 as a modem on the PowerBook but I have not been able to make a single connection doing that while the Sony Ericsson P900 works flawlessly. I also do not use any user ID or password, just the *99# and Nokia Infrared scr! ipt. Are you using some other script setting?"

I checked my setup, and yes, I'm using the Nokia Infrared script. I'm using a usb-based D-Link bluetooth adapter, because my Titanium PowerBook doesn't have bluetooth built-in. But this shouldn't affect the ease of use. I have been quite happy with the bluetooth connection over gprs, for reading e-mail for example.
