The book "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt is fine reading. A bit stereotypic, but honest, story about a poor unhappy Irish childhood. And perhaps the childhood was not so unhappy after all. Human beings have a strange skill of finding happiness almost everywhere. And perhaps also sometimes losing the happiness when the material things are just fine.
