[Item Permalink] Writing an honest novel -- Comment()
I finished reading "Angela's Ashes", which presented a long litany of miseries in an Irish childhood. After that, I read "Curse of Chalion", a fantasy novel by Bujold. Very different books, but the surprise for me was that parts of Angela's Ashes seemed to be less honest (although the book is a memoir) than Curse of Chalion, which is a fantasy novel. Perhaps a fantasy can be truer to reality than a biography. Is memory to be trusted? (However, most of Angela's Ashes was frank and honest, so the other parts were a disappointment.)
