Backup 2 beta available for .Mac users: "Apple has released a public beta version of its Backup application to users of the subscription-based .Mac online service. The new version can be downloaded by signing in to .Mac now. Backup is designed to provide users with a convenient way to back up and archive data from their Macs to removable storage media like CD-Rs or to the online storage associated with their .Mac accounts. The software includes scheduling features and more"." [MacCentral]

Backup 2.0 can also backup to external disks. I'm currently testing if I can backup my PowerBook G4 to a Windows SMB volume using Backup 2.0.
