ActiveMQ 1.0 released: open source message broker and JMS 1.1 provider I'm pleased to announce the 1.0 release of ActiveMQ the Apache 2.0 licenced, open source Message Broker and JMS 1.1 provider. Many thanks to all those who've helped on this release, from end users, folks who've created test cases, submitted patches and developers. You can embed ActiveMQ easily inside your application, use it as a purely in-VM messaging system with or without persistence or, with the flip of a single configuration string, switch to a distributed message bus in client/server, peer based or hub/spoke network topologies. We support publish / subscriber as well as queue based models both persistent and reliable (non-persistent) modes as well as JMS transactions, XA and JCA support. There is support for pluggable transports like in-VM, TCP, SSL, NIO, UDP, multicast, JGroups, JRMS, JXTA transports. Plus there's a REST API for web connectivity and Streamlets support for rich DHTML based messaging on web clients. Out of the box support for Apache Axis and Spring is included for good measure. Expos[radical]© bluetooth mouse I bought an MS bluetouth 5 button mouse a while ago and it kinda worked on OS X then just stopped. I figured I'd give it another go now that we're on 10.3.5 of Panther. Hey presto, works a treat. Tracking speed is a little on the slow side and it can take a few seconds to detect after a sleep, but other than that it works like a charm. The really nice feature is being able to use some of these 5 buttons for Exposé. e.g. I've mapped the 2 thumb buttons do the 'single application & all applications' Exposé features that I use a lot and then shift middle button for the desktop Exposé as I use middle button for cut-n-paste in iTerm shells. I use desktop Exposé much less regularly - if I'm dragging something, its often quicker to just drag off the screen corner anyways). BTW when is Apple gonna get out of its one-button mindset, especially with all the alpha-geek crowd flocking to PowerBooks? I'm starting to get dependent now on FIVE buttons, never mind 3 or 2 but one button mice - jeez Apple, join this decade. I confess that I really do like the thumb-button Exposé, it makes Exposé much slicker. Up to now I'd been using the 'move pointer to corner of screen' approach, which is much less powerful (e.g. you can press the button or hold the button for different Exposé modes). Am looking forward to Exposé dashboard in Tiger... Update Arrrgggghhh. The damned thing stopped working :(. Time for a 5 button USB mouse :( 2:47:48 PM    comment []
