I don’t want to sound like the old geezer who complains about any changes and says, “Back in my day…” but I am not real thrilled about the changes to eWeek and now InfoWorld.
eWeek, formerly PC Week, moved from tabloid size to magazine size a few weeks ago. No big deal but the content has been deteriorating IMO the last 6 months or so. Even Spencer Katt has been kind of boring. Even Cringely has been better than the Katt lately.
Now InfoWorld announces that they are moving to magazine format. Again, no biggie but they are eliminating some of their best columns. Brian Livingston’s “Windows Manager” column is history as is Russell Pavlicek’s “The Open Source”
An even bigger loss will be Ed Foster’s “The Gripe Line” biting the dust. I credit Foster and his column with informing people about the perils of UCITA, exposing Intuit’s product activation scam and other important issues.
We will have to wait and see what replaces them but at this point I think it’s a bad move.
