China has made it a crime to use the Internet to promote Taiwan's independence, organize "cults" and spread rumors to manipulate stock prices. A resolution by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, also lists slander of individuals and corporations over the Internet, creating and disseminating computer viruses, breaking into national defense networks or tampering with personal email accounts as criminal activities.
