Reinventing IT services. McKinsey delves into the upheaval facing IT services providers: Demand is down, costs are too high and customers are hiring IT staff more cheaply than they have in years. What should they do? [CNET News.com]

A must read for everyone in the IT field. I see two complementary market opportunity for educational  institutes. If the hiring of IT professionals increase domestically, we must be ready to handle the growth in enrollment. Also, the basic mix of skills and knowledge has to be redesigned to meet the changing business context. We will need to focus more on business process knowledge and skill sets that help transform BP to applications. On the international (outsource) front, we must be prepared to tap into an emerging market for IT professionals. The knowldege and skill sets are comparable to the domestic market but in addition basic technical and business skills need to be enhanced. The international market provides opportunity for us to offer customized programs.
