The small print at the bottom says:

"Department of Conservation and Development 1938"  (editor's note: a bit of an oxymoron there.)

I take it then that at least until 1938 (or circa 1937 taking into account the slow grind of bureaucratic approvals) War was officially recognizable for what it is -- War; not nation building or pre-emtive security action.

Of course, the first sign is too small to expound on which of Willson's War policies Senator Overman supported  --- those of staunch non-intervention that Wilson promised and used to get elected on, or those of collusion with the British that he dragged us into WWI on.

On the other sign, 1938 was apparently still too early in the development of the civil rights nomenclatura to talk of the "pro-slavery movement" so they must have had to settle on the there-to-fore generally used "secession movement." 9:52:40 PM      comment []
