Historical Markers (From the same corner in downtown Salisbury, NC...) The small print at the bottom says: "Department of Conservation and Development 1938" (editor's note: a bit of an oxymoron there.) I take it then that at least until 1938 (or circa 1937 taking into account the slow grind of bureaucratic approvals) War was officially recognizable for what it is -- War; not nation building or pre-emtive security action. Of course, the first sign is too small to expound on which of Willson's War policies Senator Overman supported --- those of staunch non-intervention that Wilson promised and used to get elected on, or those of collusion with the British that he dragged us into WWI on. |
