They call this news

Take a look at the local media coverage today of preparations for the G-8 conference at Sea Island ( I would show the graphic for the summit but the conference home page informs me that the US government owns the trademark and it may not be downloaded, reproduced, et al for any reason.  Ah, another saga of publicly owned property not available to the public):

  • Palate for the powerful.  AJC
  • An unlikely ally.  Loaf
  • Board denies stadium for G-8 protests.  Jacksonville
  • Glynn defends public gathering permits.  Jacksonville
  • G-8 Summit talk: Experience sharpened economists’ view of globalization.  Savannah
  • G-8 Summit reception: $200,000 for a cocktail party.  Savannah
  • Hey kids, increase your G-8 IQ.  Savannah
  • Kingsland council ok’s $116,000 for G-8 expenses.  News4Jax
  • and so forth

Contrast with coverage from sources outside of Georgia:

o       Halt the dangerous march toward drug importation.  Baltimore

o       A start on democracy.  Post

o       G-8 plans to discuss UN Iraq role. Daily Yomiuri

o       G-8 willing to help Middle East carry out reforms.  Menafn

So, while the rest of the world learns about the issues the participants of G-8 will discuss, we hear about local school boards unable to understand the world stage they have entered.  Geez. comment [] 6:39:17 AM
