I picked this up from Jeff Pulvers weblog.  A company in India (TeleSoft) has built a Symbian-based SIP/VoIP client that provides push-to-talk over IP/GPRS on any Nokia Series 60 device.  Pretty sweet.  The product demonstrates several interesting trends that seem to all have momentum:  Symbian as a smartphone OS; SIP/VoIP as a IP voice platform; real-time / presence aware communications applications.  I'll be giving this a try:

Buzz2Talk is a Push to Talk demo application for use with services such as FreeWorld Dial up. Built over Ind TeleSoft's Mobile SIP Suite, Buzz2Talk provides users with voice-based instant communication on a GPRS-enabled Symbian device*. Buzz2Talk integrates Presence and Availability with Voice over IP to provide users with an exciting communication option on existing 2.5G networks. Buzz2Talk showcases Ind TeleSoft's application development capabilities and its Mobile SIP Suite, a powerful set of tools designed to accelerate development of SIP-based applications for wireless devices. Buzz2Talk application is easy to use for 1-to-1 or 1-to-many communication with the addition third party application servers. Based on SIP and RTP technology and built as an overlay application over IP, Buzz2Talk uses IETF standards like SIP, SIMPLE, and RTP to provide an enhanced intercom or walkie-talkie like function on packet-switched networks. Buzz2Talk can be private labeled and deployed by Services Providers with custom features to increase ARPU.
