I Love My New Nokia 3650

Call me a traitor, tar and feather me.  I worked on the Microsoft mobility business for a year and a half and loved every minute of it ... but I went out and bought the new Nokia 3650 smart phone.  I bought it with my own cash, it looks and works great, it plucked my heart strings, it inspired me.  Most of all it executes on scenarios not technology.  Like my iMac it makes the technology less obvious makes scenarios more apparent.  That is why people buy technology products ... to do things (yes I know that is debately in many cases).

Today I took 4 photographs that I never would have taken and shared them with people while away from my PC.  I took a short video as well and saved it on my PC.  I checked my personal email account, I looked at when my next meeting was, and I talked to my mom on speaker phone on the way home in the car.  How cool is that ... I did all of this with MY PHONE ...  and it works pretty much anywhere in the civilized world thanks to GSM.

Next month I have to go to Athens, Greece on a business trip.  Never been there before, neither has my wife.  This time she will be practically visiting it in real-time instead of getting a call telling her how cool, interesting, or beautiful something I saw was.  It will be a new way to experience travel, I am looking forward to it.

Check it out ...

Ray Ozzie kicks us all some knowledge in his latest interview.  This man gets it.  Whether it can be monetized or not is a different question.

“Rebuilding the Internet up one level will require bringing new standard elements into the Internet stack. Ozzie gave examples of what could be part of a rebuilding effort, including XML packets replacing IP packets, encrypted V-cards instead of the usual DNS, a message-switching layer more like the open source Jabber than SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), or a dynamic DNS that works more like instant messaging for finding people.

It's far more likely that these kinds of improvements will take root at a middleware rather than operating system level. It takes years for operating systems to design, test and implement new features. In addition, the middleware approach, like Web services, allows components to operate on disparate hardware and software platforms, independent from the infrastructure. “
