Here's a new sample letter by Dave Goree, our LPNC Ballot Access Director, that will give you some ideas for what to write to your rep today!
Dear Rep. [name],
On April 24, 2003 every member of the North Carolina House has the opportunity to show the citizens of North Carolina where they stand on electoral fairness. HB867, The Electoral Fairness Act, is on the calendar to be voted on in that session.
All that the Electoral Fairness Act proposes is to reduce North Carolina's ballot access hurdles to the national average. Depending on the standard used, NC is either 4 or 5 times more difficult that the average state to either gain initial ballot access or retain it once won.
This is patently unfair and also extremely costly, both to the parties forced into huge petition drives to gain access to our ballot, and to the local Boards of Elections that must certify these hundreds of thousands of signatures. If you are unsure of this issue please go to www.ballot-access.org before you vote on this bill. This site is run by Richard Winger, probably the world's expert on ballot access issues.
This bill has broad tri-partisan support. Just look at the list of sponsors and the speed that it has moved through the process.
You have a chance to show your position on electoral fairness, and we have a chance to see the positions of the entire House on this critical issue to Freedom. Please vote for HB867, The Electoral Fairness Act, show us all that you believe in Freedom.
In Liberty,
[your name]
