I attended an Apple user-group meeting yesterday. Theme of the evening was "AppleScript". The interesting part of the evening was that the presenter scared the present crowd in a way that they'll touch AppleScript either never or in about twelve months (my guess). Why is it so hard to show the little things that give absolute newbies a chance to understand what is going on? Confronted with the different types of variables about two minutes into the session, most of the crowd started discussions about different subjects. The presenter never tried to win the audience back after he lost them, he continued bravely about the types of handlers available and how to catch errors thrown by objects. I talked to him afterwards, and asked him why he didn't show those absolute beginners some stupid iTunes scripts to get them up to speed on how to automate things. His answer: "I only do workflow automation, I never scripted iTunes before." 5:43:54 PM |
