Library of Babelogue

Readings, Resources, and Random Curiosities and Cool Stuff

Robert Burton's, Anatomy of Melancholy --The ultimate history of misery.

Luc Sante --great archive and bibliography of Sante's stuff.

Big Brain Comics --81 South 10th St., Minneapolis, MN 612-338-4390  --one of the Twin Cities' treasure troves of fascination.  Pop culture at its brightest, from Ernie Bushmiller to The Golem's Mighty Swing.

The Coolest Music Posters on the Planet --Check out this massive gallery of poster art, including the latest from the guys at St. Paul's Aesthetic Apparatus.

GOT A GEEK like me on your Christmas list? You can't go wrong with something from New York's incomparable Evolution store.  Skulls, skeletons, beetles, and freeze-dried cats, among other wonders of the natural world.

The Memphis Blues Again: Six Decades of Memphis Music Photographs, Ernest Withers. Viking Books.  Incredible document for fans of Stax, Sun and Hi records, and the glory days of Memphis music. Great companion piece to Peter Guralnick's Sweet Soul Music.

Dion Mcgregor Dreams Again (Tzadik records).  Hard-to-believe but hugely entertaining monologues from a guy who talked in his sleep.

David Rathman --My favorite local artist has had a great year, with a show in New York and a new batch of prints at the Highpoint Center for Printmaking.  You can catch a bunch of his new stuff at the Walker in December.

Revenant Records --the late John Fahey's labor of love now has a website. No home should be without a copy of American Primitive, Volume One.
