Plastic Fantastic: When will Polymer Clay be considered art? I know there are tons of folks using it already, but it seems to suffer even worse than ceramics from craft/art issues. In some ways it seems to be the poor stepchild of ceramic art. I guess when I see it featured in a major museum or gallery, then I'd know it was starting to be accepted. I assume it may not be featured in some "ceramics" venues as it is not vitrified. While it looks and works similar to clay, I'd think it's structure is not microscopic plates, but strings. Perhaps that does change it's final look enough to consider it separate from ceramics. Doesn't seem to slow its practitioners down. I wonder if it attracts a younger crowd? (I was thinking it would be a good substitute for some ceramic projects as it does not need as much energy to become solid. However, maybe it takes more energy to make the stuff.) 6:52:29 AM |
