Location, Meaning, Glazes Joan Lederman uses ocean sediments in her glazes. She also marks the pots to tell folks where the glaze contents came from. I[base ']ve used materials from various locations,
including the Arabian Sea, the Dead Sea, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean,
the Bering Straits and the Black Sea, the Indian Ocean, Pacific
Ocean, Southern Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as materials
from hydrothermal vents and crust slurry from the mid-Atlantic Ridge
crust.
On her website, The Soft Earth, she keeps notes about the locations, so that people can further understand the meaning of the glaze.Ceramics Today She also does custom pots with other material that is special to a particular client. Joan is doing lots of interesting experiments with text, meaning, and materials. 6:59:08 AM |
