This article from D-Lib Magazine reports on the Scout Portal Toolkit project, an open source software application developed at the Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison with funding from the Mellon Foundation. Eastern Oregon University's network administrator, John Nuetzel, and I have been beta testing SPT for more than a year and are now evaluating its effectiveness for an EduResources portal. I want to be able to integrate this EduResources weblog, with an EduResources guidelines web site, and an Eduresources portal--all would be directed at supporting how HE faculty locate and use online instructional resources. SPT is especially impressive in the way that it builds metadata standards into the field entry process; the software also has built-in Google-style browsing and searching capabilities, plus an RSS news feed capability.
