EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

I've been thinking about the many different points of view and contributors to the world of online instructional resources. One of the most important is the contribution of librarians. As my colleague Vicky York said at the EduResources Online WCET Conference "applying metadata is just cataloguing"--something that librarians have been doing for decades.

Among the 53 weblog feeds that I'm tracking, the ResourceShelf is one of the most valuable for finding library resources. ResourceShelf is compiled and edited by Gary Price with "resources and news for information professionals."

Although I'm not an information professional, I do find the information that comes across on ResourceShelf to be exceedingly valuable, often leading to links and resources that I would not have located on my own. E.g., this report from Wed. Nov. 12, 2003 in ResourceShelf about "User Misconceptions about Information Retrieval Systems" should be of interest to everyone who works with instructional repositories and referatories (http://ai.bpa.arizona.edu/go/intranet/papers/usermis.pdf).
