EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

The Horizon Report is available as a downloadable pdf file. The report is from the New Media Consortium (NMC), a non-profit organization "that brings forward-thinking learning organizations - colleges, universities, and museums - together with innovative high-tech companies to collaborate in a non-competitive environment" (http://www.nmc.org/). This Horizon Report includes Learning Objects among the important new technologies with relevance for teaching, learning, and creative expression. The appraisals of the new technologies and the links for further reading are of value for anyone evaluating the application of these technologies to their institution. (Other technologies reviewed are Scalable Vector Graphics, Rapid Prototyping, Multimodal Interfaces, Context Aware Computing, and Knowledge Webs.)

"The NMC is pleased to announce the publication of the 2004 Horizon Report. The report, produced with support from the Corel Corporation, highlights six technologies that the underlying research suggests will become very important to higher education over the next one to five years. A central focus of the discussion of each technology is its relevance for teaching, learning, and creative expression. Live weblinks to example applications are provided in each section, as well as to additional readings. The 2004 Horizon Report is being released with a license to freely replicate and distribute the report."
