EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

This online book was not designed specifically to be a resource for teaching, but it is a fine example of the kind of excellent self-instruction sites that are plentifully available on the Web.  In my view one of the great advances brought by the Internet is the widespread availabilty of courses, books, tutorials, and other resources that are now freely available to learners of all ages and interests.

The Encyclopedia sixth edition covers ancient, medieval, and modern history.   "Renowned historian Peter N. Stearns and thirty prominent historians have combined their expertise over the past ten years to perfect this comprehensive chronology of more than 20,000 entries that span the millennia from prehistoric times to the year 2000." See Bartleby (http://www.bartleby.com/) for a listing of other reference and classic books provided online. ___JH
