EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

I really like some of the old-fashioned, no-frills resource sites like this one (which are often just categorized lists) that are created and maintained by one person, just out of a devotion and fascination with the subject. The full title of this site is "The Impoverished Social Scientist's Guide to Free Statistical Software and Resources." The site is maintained by Micah Altman at Harvard University. Also consult his "The Impoverished Social Scientists Guide to Data Resources." Each listed item is briefly described to help users choose which ones to examine. A quick Google search of "Free Statistical Software" and "Statistical Data Resources" will reveal other useful sites, but I believe Altman's Guide is an excellent place to begin. ____JH

"For statistical computing resources and other software for accurate computing, such as high-precision libraries, optimizers, and random number generators see our statistical computing page. And for software written by me for data distribution, accuracy, and replication see my software page. For sources of research data, see my Data Resources page. "
