EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

iBerry describes itself as an "academic porthole," not a portal, for education resources; they adopt as their motto the statement, "Everyone has a right to education" from the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights. iBerry's porthole has much to view: an Open Courseware Directory, a selection of Higher Education Resource links and portals, a News Aggregator of higher education news and blog feeds, and an Academic Community (for those who register) to create and edit open courseware items. I'm just beginning to explore iBerry, but so far what I've seen is impressive; I recommend that others visit the site and participate in the porthole. iBerry is one of the very few sites to provide both search tools for finding online academic resources and tools for creating those resources. ____JH

"Open Courseware (OCW) is now widely available and free of charge to any user with web access anywhere in the world but do not expect a complete program of studies offering expert tuition, interaction with fellow students, assessment and finally the award of a qualification. You will probably have to decide for yourself how to benefit from OCW - if at all! The quality and scope of Open Courseware varies considerably so we are attempting to compile a directory of good quality OCW that will be of most use and relevance to self-learners and educators. Courseware items consisting of little more than a syllabus statement are not listed while those with good lecture notes are normally included, as are impressive podcasts, videoed lectures or image collections. Each listing in the OCW Directory comes with a brief description (normally taken from the link website) and users can refine their search results with respect to over 30 subject heading, media type (assignments, exams, software / demonstrations, audio, notes, video) and academic level (introductory, intermediate, advanced). "

"Each academic subject area in the Open Course Directory is associated with resource listings covering prime websites, associations and academic journals. There are also many other resource pages on diverse topics with an academic flavor such as educational technology, distance education, women, research, jobs, academic fraud, graduate information and humor."

"If you are registered you can customize your RSS sidebar displays to display your preferred RSS feeds as blocks of headlines when you login."

"If you register you can communicate with other registered users (without revealing your private email address), create and edit Open Courseware Items, customize your displays and set your own local time. You can also help others make the best use of Open Courseware by creating and publishing your own material in a 'Subject Porthole'."
