Today's Australian Word: RortIn use: There was widespread rorting of millions of dollars worth of overtime. Dictionary.com didn't have this one, so I had to go further afield. It turned up in the dictionary at Freesearch.co.uk.
They explain that it's an Australian term (which I assumed, since I
came across it at an Australian site) and describe it as informal.
(Informal or not, I presume that its usage is rather common since it
was used in a serious news article!) Verb: to take unfair advantage of a public service for your own benefit Noun: a plan to take unfair advantage of a public service for your own benefit I'm
delighted to finally have a word for this. Can't think of an equivalent
American term, but I know plenty of Americans who rort on a regular
basis so it's a word we need here!
