In the first installment of this column, I cited an excellent point made in Clay Shirky's P2P keynote -- that the value of a group-forming network rises exponentially with the number of groups formed. I was tempted to name this phenomenon "Shirky's Law" but didn't. That's lucky because, as UserLand's John Robb showed me, it is in fact known as Reed's Law.

UserLand Software has sent up a volley of fireworks this year. January brought Radio UserLand 8.0, the subject of last month's column. Late February was the target date for Radio Community Server (RCS), an add-on that transforms an instance of Radio into the same kind of community server as Radio.Weblogs.Com.

...soeben ist mir wieder einmal der gerade erst geschriebene Text verlorengegangen (Regel: verlasse niemals das Edit Fenster ohne zuvor den Inhalt zu kopieren!)

Ich widme den gestrigen Abend und das Heute der Sammlung von Dokus und Kommentaren zu RU. Einerseits ist man überwältigt von der Fülle an Informationen die es zu RU gibt, andererseits ist man überwältigt vom Grad der Ungeordnetheit in dem diese vorliegen. Positiv formuliert: Der dezentralisierte Zugang zur Information ist verwirklicht.

Beruhigend ist jedoch, dass das Konzept von RU anscheinend wirklich neu ist und auch bei "Alteingesessenen" eine Neuorientierung ihrer Gedankenwelt erfordert. So sind statements wie "I'm still trying to understand how it changes things" (Scott Johnson) gar nicht so selten zu finden. Dieser Satz beschreibt ziemlich gut meinen derzeitigen Status.
