Disappearing Government Information (continued) Operation TIPS was a Federal program designed to involve the millions of American workers who, in the daily course of their work, are in a unique position to serve as extra eyes and ears for law enforcement. Workers, such as truck drivers, bus drivers, train conductors, mail carriers, utility readers, ship captains, and port personnel are ideally suited to help in the anti-terrorism effort because their routines allow them to recognize unusual events. The details of this program, a part of Citizen Corps, were available on the web until the program was derailed by a Congress concerned about its implications for privacy. Now it is as if the program had never existed, as all mention of TIPs has been expunged from the Citizen Corps website. ULCT to premiere website: Where your tax dollars go In January the Utah League of Cities and Towns should have a new website running at yourmoneysworth.org. The group claims the site will provide information about how their taxes are utilized, especially property and sales taxes. It appears that that there is a advocacy side to the site as well, with a goal of getting more of these tax dollars. By the way, the ULCT site also has a very good set of links to the websites of Utah's cities and towns. You can also find a useful listing, with the ability to search the sites, by clicking on Cities and Towns at info.utah.gov.comments or questions [] 9:29:43 AM ![]() |
