Parrot

Its been a while since I checked out what was going on with Parrot.  While searching through Perl.com I found this interesting article; an interview with Larry Wall and Guido van Rossum. I was really interested to hear that other programming communites have shown an interest in the project (Larry mentions Ruby), as the project matures it will be really interesting to see what happens to the languages such as Perl, Python, TCL and Ruby.

BTW Parrot seems to be getting a bit like .NET in that it has a join meaning. A VM, IL style language plus a higher level language.

More GC Info - via Jason Whittington's web log

When I went through my Garbage Collection phase a year ago I discovered Jones & Lins.  This book is right up there with Tanenbaum's networking book for humor and information density together - a fabulous start into the world of dynamic memory management.  Today Jason Bock's site led me to author Richard Jones's site, and his jaw-dropping Garbage Collection Page.  Links Galore!  A lifetime's worth of GC material - no wonder he calls it "the Garbage Collection page".  Check out "the Software" for several drop-in collectors, including the Boehm-Weiser collector which I believe is being used for Mono.

I bought the book Jason mentions just last week, I echo his comments that its a great book!

Jason is also correct about the Mono GC
