The Tablet PC's implications for newspapers "Whatever appeal a Tablet PC holds for readers in general, subscribers to a digital daily may need that value in versatility, for it remains to be seen if an electronic edition is more desirable and convenient than a paper edition for most newspaper readers. No print publication needs more help than the complex, oversize newspaper. The challenge is squeezing a 12-by-21-inch page onto a 6-by-9-inch screen" http://www.editorandpublisher.com/editorandpublisher/headlines/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1778926 länken hämtad från http://12.108.175.91/ebookweb/news

Library technology developments "Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) have started to intrude into library and information services. Some libraries are reconfiguring their software catalogues to allow PDA access. It is certainly a good way to demonstrate that libraries keep up to date with technology. Should librarians themselves start to use PDAs? Should PDAs be bought by libraries for onward loan to their readers in the same way they do with videos, PCs and e-books?" "Up to date technology such as PDAs is certainly an important means of maintaining "readership" amongst a younger audience. Medical libraries appear to be the ones taking the lead with this technology. In some sectors, particularly the medical and pharmaceutical libraries, the databases are formatted for a PDA user interface. Medical practitioners can access and conduct research on line from the point of care (i.e. when they are with the patient), obtaining instant answers to queries about http://www.it-director.com/article.php?id=3433 7:50:32 AM |
