This was not what I was expecting in my first e-mail from Madonna: Dear Coty,Well, maybe I expected the bits about never having done this before and and taking risks, but I definitely didn't foresee Wesley Clark's being involved.
Seriously, though, at the very least Madonna does bring a lot of attention along with her, and I am increasingly certain that Clark is the right Democratic candidate for 2004. (FWIW, I'm even more certain that Dean is not.) |
I mentioned Baby Banger a while back, and I just noticed a Google search for the same in my referrer logs. Consequently, I thought I'd mention a program that I've found that I think is better than Baby Banger (as does Henry). It is called AlphaBaby. I had some problems running version 1.2 on one of our old iBooks after upgrading to Panther, but I'm hoping 1.3 will fix that. Other than that, my only complaint is that AlphaBaby isn't open source. Baby Banger is. I can't afford to be religious about the issue though when Henry likes AlphaBaby so much more, and I don't have the time to improve Baby Banger. Maybe I'll quit being lazy, or maybe I'll be able to convince AlphaBaby's author to open the source. comment [] trackback [] 2:49:10 PM ![]() |
I'm sure nobody has been waiting for my commentary on the various Mac World announcements this week, so I don't feel too bad for waiting so late in the week to provide it.
Much has been written about the iPod minis. I'm not going to rehash it all, but I think it may turn out to be a more successful product than most commentators seem to think. Sure, they don't cost $100 (which was a ridiculous rumor, anyway) or even $200, but they cost $249 for 4GB which is just what the 4GB Rio Nitrus should cost, so they seem to be priced appropriately to compete. If and when the price needs to be lowered, I'm sure Apple will have the margin to do so. In the meantime, I believe Apple is doing as it should and making the most margin they can.
The big iLife news was certainly GarageBand, which I don't see impacting me at all. It looks great for anyone who is musical, though. When I go to the Apple Store at Lenox, I see lots of people playing with the keyboards attached to a few of the Macs there, so I can imagine that GarageBand could create some new Mac buyers. I'm most excited by the support for very large (up to 25,000 photos) albums in iPhoto. I don't know how many total photos we have in various iPhoto albums at home, but our most current album is starting to drag, and it is a giant pain to split albums and have to switch back and forth to find photos, etc. I cannot wait to pay my $49.00 for the new iPhoto alone.
I haven't seen much coverage of the Microsoft portion of the keynote and Office:Mac 2004. I watched it for the first time via QuickTime last night, and I have to mention my surprise at seeing the Notebook Layout View in Word 2004. The similarity to AquaMinds' NoteTaker is undeniable. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I still use Word, and I'll appreciate having a mode more conducive to note taking. However, I have to think this could cost Aquaminds some sales, and I really like their product. |
