I've been searching on and off for an infectious tune that I heard while it was on frequent rotation on MTV UK two summers ago. I finally heard it being played on WRAS a couple of days ago. It turned out to be It Won't Do by Tim Deluxe. Easy to find once I knew that. Not on ITMS, alas, but the Tim Deluxe web site was easy to find and MP3s of It Won't Do were easily downloadable from trax2burn.com. You can listen to it and a couple of other tracks right on the Tim Deluxe site, as well. comment [] trackback [] 1:47:20 AM ![]() |
More on the joys of being the proud owner of a new Treo 600 later. Right now I just want to point to one of the coolest things I've found I can do with my new toy: stream live radio over GPRS.
That might seem a bit silly on its face. I mean, other phones accomplish roughly the same thing more simply by just embedding an FM tuner. That misses the beauty of Internet streaming, though, which is freeing one of the tyranny of location. With my Treo I can listen to stations all over the world. treoBITS has Treo 600-friendly Shoutcast links. KCRW isn't listed, but I'm hoping they have a low bandwidth stream as I often use them to get a late morning (EST) fix of NPR.
Pocket Tunes (AKA pTunes) is the key to accomplishing this feat. It is an MP3 player for Palm devices. If it were just that, it wouldn't be that interesting to me as I have my trusty iPod for listening to recorded music. Its ability to stream live radio over the Internet is what really turns me on.
I've thought that an FM tuner would be a nice little addition to the iPod, but now I see that would be totally wrong. The iPod needs to be an Internet radio tuner. It would nicely parallel the radio functionality in iTunes. Enabling the iPod (and iTunes) to record/time shift streams would be icing on the cake. |
