More Archetypes DocsI previously mentioned Sidnei's well-written Archetypes Quick Reference, now part of the Archetypes Documentation effort.Last night, runyaga reminded me about Joel Burton's Using Archetypes SQLStorage. Wow. What an astonishing document. There's a myth that Zope has bad documentation, though the reality is that it has unfindable but great docs. :^) Joel is a clear writer and goes way beyond the call of duty to make sure you will be successful in accomplishing the topic. And what a topic it is! Letting people use RDBMS content while retaining the value of Plone/Zope is Item One on the list when talking to prospective customers. Thanks Joel! I originally had low expectations for Archetypes, as I felt the last thing we needed was another framework. But I'm wrong. This is a framework that is documented, which puts it ahead of others, regardless of implementation quality. Archetypes is also productive, solves real problems, and is building a community that can answer questions.
All this translates to traction. Could Archetypes become Zope's glue? |
