SFLC and Plone Foundation

Hey, the press release is out about the Software Freedom Law Center and the Plone Foundation.

First, the SFLC is something special. Read the eWeek article for more background. There is also an interview with Eben on that site, talking about the future of the GPL, which also gives a good flavor of the thinking.

Working with Eben, Bradley Kuhn, and particularly Dan Ravicher, has been a wonderful experience. One of the best professional experiences I've had in the recent past. At the big picture level, Eben has articulated a clear vision on a "software conservancy" for Plone that both inspires and explains, and then coached us on putting it into action. Dan has been extremely responsive...really, just plain perfect....on all of my naive questions and fixing my mistakes on the agreements. Patience, expertise, and virtue. The Plone Foundation is extremely fortunate to work with the SFLC.

I hope we have some way to return the benefit we've gained from working with them.

Business model talk at LinuxWorld London

I've been invited to give the free-wheelin' Open Source Business Model jam-talk at LinuxWorld London. They said they want to put me in the big room. Let's see how well call-and-response works with a large group. (wink)

If you're a Zope UK member, or if you're doing open source in the UK, and you think you might attend...drop me a line (paul at zope dash europe dot org). Give me some coaching on what you think is the answer to the question: "What is, and isn't, an open source business?"
