Infrae release Document Library

During our trip to speak at a conference at the Oxford business school last month, Kit Blake from Infrae talked to me about the Document Library application that they worked on. It is a very, very interesting piece of work, focusing on open metadata and sharing.

Updated the Zea screencast library

The 2006 mission for Zea Partners (formerly Zope Europe Association) can be boiled down to two ideas: promotion and projects. On the former, the Zea Screencast Library is the most visible component. The partner companies are pooling resources to create evaluation material, and these screencasts are the first result.

I just did some updates:

  • Re-exported the Zope 3 screencasts to get higher audio quality.
  • Added 3 "ChefPlone" screencasts: authoring, collaboration, and searching.
  • Put a faint watermark on the screencasts.

The two screencasts for Zope 3 show:

  • Start-to-finish installation on Windows. Zope 3 is a little different than Zope 2. There's a step that always baffled me which I kept forgetting. The screencast serves as a reminder to myself. [wink]
  • The shortest path to Hello World. I chatted quite a bit with Joel Moxley on this one, doing several iterations of refinement. I think I could take this in two directions: another round of reductions or perhaps an expansion to show something better than hello world.

The ChefPlone series had a lot of behind-the-scenes work. First, Joel Burton did some serious work making a skin that doesn't look like Plone, as this is one of the biggest-first questions people ask. Second, I spent a lot of time making a very large data set of structured, meaningful, and freely-available sample content.

I had a couple of cases where "pause" in Camtasia clipped the last syllable of a word. I might have to re-do the screencasts where this happened.

What's next? Well, lots more screencasts, obviously. I'd like some input about what topics to show. If you have ideas, add a comment.
