I got a sweet new laptop at work today. I'm now the proud user of a Dell Latitude D800. It's a sweet machine - 1.6 GHz, 1 GB memory, 30 GB hard drive... it's nice. Really nice.

The machine is significantly faster than my old ride. I had a P3-650 with 512 MB memory and a 6 GB hard drive. One word about my old machine - SMOKED!

Another cool thing about this machine is the screen. It's got a cool aspect ration. I don't think it's 16:9, but it's close. I'm running at 1680 x 1050 which works out to 1.6 ratio. 16:9 is a 1.77 ratio.

The screen is also cool because I can fit ALOT of stuff on the screen at a time. I'm going to really enjoy that while I'm writing code. Heck, I'm just going to enjoy that period. It's going to be hard for me to get out of the habit of going for the maximize button though.

Best of all, you should see how fast this thing loads Emacs...

OS X 10.3 Has Built-in File Defragmentation [MacSlash] [Jon Israelson's Blog]

Very, very, very cool. Another great reason why Apple is kickin' ass with the new operating platform.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Those hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator would taste alot better if you heated them up before breakfast. What better place to heat them up than the microwave?

Let's see... About a minute should do it. Boop, boop, boop, boop. 10... 20... 30... 43... POP! Oh #@?*&! What was I thinking? Quick! Clean it up before Carey wakes up!

Well, having the benefit of hindsight, I can suggest other places that might be more conducive to evenly heating up hard boiled eggs. Also, I would tell you that if you decide to try it COVER the eggs and don't go over 30 seconds.

In case you've never experienced it, the last thing you want to see at breakfast is the burnt yolk of a hard boiled egg. Ick!
