While the Dutch government is considering the continuation of its military presence in Afghanistan, it would better consider the increasing number of reports about torture and secret prisons there.

WSWS: "An army summary in May [2004] revealed a widespread pattern of abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan involving more military units and locations than previously known or acknowledged."

Scotsman: "ACLU says the CIA has broken international and US law and is acting on behalf of a man allegedly abducted and flown to a secret CIA prison in Afghanistan."

Indymedia: "The most important article that appeared highlighting America's network of detention and torture facilities was by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark in the March 19, 2005 Guardian. It stated that Afghanistan had become 'the hub of a global system of detention centres where prisoners are held incommunicado and allegedly subjected to torture'.
Michael Posner of the US legal watchdog Human Rights First, said, 'The detention system in Afghanistan exists entirely outside international norms, but it is only part of a far larger and more sinister jail network that we are only now beginning to understand.'"

A continuation of the Dutch military presence in Afghanistan would make the Dutch government guilty of aiding and abetting war criminals.

HindustanTimes: "The civil rights activist advocacy group American Civil Liberties Union has said it plans to sue the US Government on behalf of a man allegedly abducted and sent to another country for detention and interrogation.
'The lawsuit will charge that CIA officials at the highest level violated US And universal human rights laws when they authorized agents to abduct an innocent man, detain him incommunicado, beat him, drug him and transport him to a secret CIA prison in Afghanistan,' the news release said."

Newswatch: "Military autopsy reports provide indisputable proof that detainees are being tortured to death while in US military custody. Yet the corporate media of the United States (US) is covering it with the seriousness of a garage sale for the local Baptist Church, media research organisation Project Censored has said."

BucharestDailyNews: "Human Rights Watch (HRW) has indirect, but strong evidence that Romania and Poland were involved 'some time ago' in the case of the CIA alleged secret prisons, together with several Middle East countries, according to the organization's military analyst, Mark Garlasco, in an interview with Delta RFI radio station."

Reuters: "Romania and the United States will sign a deal on Tuesday to set up U.S. military bases in the Black Sea country, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday."
That is reason enough not to let Romania join the European Union.

Independent: "There are growing calls at Westminster for Mr Blair to block the CIA flights. The Labour MP Harry Cohen said: "It is not for the UK Government to connive in and facilitate people disappearance. The Government's blind-eye approach to enforcing the law is not acceptable.'"

In a country in which students are threatened to be expelled when they stage an anti-Bush walkout and in which the president has reaffirmed his support for the death penalty, it would only be fair to call for the impeachment and trial of Bush and his accomplices and consider the ultimate penalty, the death penalty for war crimes.
I strongly support the trial and sentence of the ultimate penalty for George W. Bush as 'ultimately it would help save innocent lives'.
