EUObserver: "In a surprise move, the political spokesperson for the governing conservative party in Denmark, Pia Christmas-Møller, has spoken out in favour of a referendum on the EU's Refom Treaty, calling it 'idiotic' not to put it to a public poll."

EUObserver: "The Labour Party in the Dutch parliament has decided to avoid another referendum meaning there is now a majority in the parliament for escaping the 62 percent 'no' vote from the 1 June 2005 referendum.
This is a sad state of affairs and could turn voters against parliamentary democracy. It is refreshing that Dutch former EU commissioner, Frits Bolkestein, has spoken out in favour of asking the people.
And so has Max van den Berg, the ex-leader of the Dutch socialist members of the European parliament, with whom we initiated a call for referendums in all member states.

The original constitution plainly stated that EU-rules have primacy over national law. This article has not been deleted. It has been moved to a footnote and made more difficult to find and read.

The Charter of Fundamental Rights has been removed from the Reform Treaty itself. But it is clearly stated that it will be legally binding. It will be signed by the presidents of the three main EU institutions and printed in the Official Journal in the same way as the Reform Treaty. Therefore, the presentation has changed and nothing else! And it will bind all Dutch authorities when they are implementing EU rules in exactly the same way as the original constitution. The Charter is an invitation to the European court to further develop European citizenship and fundamental rights - and duties.

The Netherlands and other member states will mostly disappear as states dealing with other states. The other states will not negotiate with the Dutch but with the representatives of the Union.
I have compared the rejected EU constitution and the new Reform Treaty very carefully and I have not found one important difference in legal obligations. The differences are just in the presentation."

Signing the Treaty would be breaching the sovereignty of all European nations. It would be treason. It would give the neoconservative corporations the freedom to establish a new kind of feudalism.

Mark Fiore has a new animation: The War for Profit.

NYTimes: "Participants in a contentious Baghdad security operation this month have told American investigators that during the operation at least one guard continued firing on civilians while colleagues urgently called for a cease-fire. At least one guard apparently also drew a weapon on a fellow guard who did not stop shooting, an American official said.

The operation, by the private firm Blackwater USA, began as a mission to evacuate senior American officials after an explosion near where they were meeting, several officials said. Some officials have questioned the wisdom of evacuating the Americans from a secure compound, saying the area should instead have been locked down."

CarpetbaggerReport: "El Pais, the highest-circulation daily in Spain, today published what it said was the transcript of a private talk between President George W. Bush and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar on February 22, 2003, concerning the coming U.S. invasion of Iraq.
The conversation took place on the President's ranch in Crawford, Texas. The confidential transcript was prepared by Spain's ambassador to the United States, Javier Ruperez, the paper said.
Bush purportedly said he planned to invade Iraq in March 'if there was a United Nations Security Council resolution or not ... We have to get rid of Saddam. We will be in Baghdad at the end of March.'
He said the U.S. takeover would happen without widespread destruction. He observed that he was willing to play bad cop to British Prime Minister Tony Blair's good cop."

Excerpts from the transcript.

We all know for quite some time now that Bush and Blair lied, and that European prime ministers lied. Dutch PM Balkenende knew what was going on and he too lied. Democracy has become a farce.

Comment: "Bush shouldn't be impeached, he should be tried under the Nuremberg standards. Isn't that exactly why there were made? To avoid situations like this."

Azstarnet: "A fire hydrant painted as an American flag has been removed from a dog park after complaints it was disrespectful to let dogs use it for what dogs do."
And that at a time when people are being killed by the thousands just for profit and greed.

And the morons are already preparing their new war:
CommonDreams: "The Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a measure sending another rebuke to Tehran, this one aimed at sending a message to the Islamic regime to end military tactics targeting U.S. forces in Iraq."
Hillary Clinton was one of the yea voters. Shows you how corrupt the whole system is.
