AbuAardvark: "Does al-Qaeda really want the United States to withdraw from Iraq, as current administration arguments would have it? Not according to the letter captured during the raid which killed Abu Musab Zarqawi, allegedly from a member of al-Qaeda's inner circle identified only as 'Atiyah, recently translated and released by Counterterrorism Center at West Point. 'Atiyah writes:
The most important thing is that you continue in your jihad in Iraq, and that you be patient and forbearing, even in weakness, and even with fewer operations... Do not be hasty. The most important thing is that the jihad continues with steadfastness and firm rooting, and that it grows in terms of supporters, strength, clarity of justification, and visible proof each day. Indeed, prolonging the war is in our interest, with God's permission."

CommonDreams: "Attorneys for 25 men being held in Afghanistan launched a pre-emptive strike Monday against President Bush's plan to prosecute and interrogate terror suspects.
Court documents filed Monday demand that the men be released or charged and allowed to meet with attorneys. Such a filing, known as a habeas corpus petition, is prohibited under the legislation approved by Congress last week.
That bill says the military may detain enemy combatants indefinitely and, if officials choose to bring charges, the cases would be heard before a military commission, not a civilian judge.
Bush has not signed the bill but expects to soon.
Though the petition was filed before the bill was signed, the law was written retroactively, so a judge would have to strike down at least some of the law in order for the detainees represented by the center to prevail."
This case will decide whether America is still a republic or a dictatorship.
WorldCan'tWait: Make October 5, 2006 the day the whole world comes to know there is a Force in this Country Determined to Drive Out the Bush Regime.

BradBlog: "Incredibly, during a total of three different cutaways to video footage of Foley [Republican], he was labelled at the bottom of the screen [on Fox News] each time as '(D-FL)'!
Three different times. In two different segements. Each cutaway about 15 seconds or more. Showing Foley as a DEMOCRAT. Amazing."
Not really amazing if you know that Faux News is der Führer's very own Völkischer Beobachter.
One of their tenets is: "Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise." (Adolf Hitler)
America is mad. After all, it is very easy to buy firearms for anyone, but sex toys are a different matter (no wonder there is so much pent-up sexual frustration that results in murder):
BoingBoing: "The Supreme Court today refused to consider a case challenging the constitutionality of a Texas law that makes it a crime to promote 'sex toys shaped like sexual organs'. Snip from AP item:
An adult bookstore employee in El Paso, Texas, sued the state after his arrest for showing two undercover officers a device shaped like a penis and telling the female officer the device would arouse and gratify her.
The employee, Ignacio Sergio Acosta, says a Texas law outlawing the manufacture, marketing or dissemination of an 'obscene device' including those shaped like sex organs is unconstitutional because it prevents individuals from using such devices, violating their right to sexual privacy.
Colorado, Kansas and Louisiana have held such laws unconstitutional, while Georgia, Mississippi and Texas have upheld them, said Acosta's lawyer in urging the Supreme Court to take the case."
