Mozilla is a true warrior in the battle over digital freedom

dave has revisited his views on how the battle has progressed so far. for those of us living under a stone, years ago dave had posted an excellent /. entry saying that unless mozilla made it into a quality browser for all platforms, the battle over both the desktop and server space would be inevitably lost, effectively leaving only ms IE/IIS standing. for more discussion, here's the /. thread.

well dave, things are still changing, but for the better. mozilla is by far the best browser around, especially on windows.

--- this entry, as well as every entry on this blog, was posted with mozilla for win/macosx ----

Is globalisation+Internet resulting in the death of langugages?

many have argued that the true combined effect of globalisation and communication netwroks, most notably the Internet, will lead to a homogenised, sterile linguistic skeleton where either chinese or english will survive. all other languages will perish, they say. charles leadbeater's done a great job counter-proving this argument in the excellent up the down escalator (ie. many people speak english but only english people speak english the way a BBC bloke/lass does - a pakistani has quite a different accent, etc, not to mention that there're immense benefits to be gained in the scientific realm by speaking the same language, etc...)

gregor rothfuss provides another example - germish

germish

Germish, also referred to as Denglisch, Engleutsch, Genglish or Ginglish is a jumble of English terms embedded within a grammatically German sentence (or vice versa). It is spoken in all German-speaking countries and owes its existence in part to the cultural predominance of English language pop music and international computer slang.

maybe globalisation+Internet give rise to a multiplicity of dialects. we'll have to wait and see:-) another noteworthy experiment in the interplay among different languages in the context of blogging is blogalization
