Elbow Problems
What a world we live in. In all of history I doubt that elbows have every been stressed more. Or even as much. Do you think that we will start to see more surgery being performed on our hinging arms?
Sitting in the airport today I was surrounded by dozens of people holding hand to face. Fortunately they had a nice piece of hot, sweaty plastic in between.
Aren't cell phones wonderful? Along with elbow stress they allow all of us to be somewhere while not being there. Are we all so unhappy with where we are that we have to live virtually? Cell phones allow all of us to have these out-of-body experiences. We seem to be a nation of people who live in the cellular ether.
Cell phones keep us talking to people who aren't with us. The art of face-to-face conversations is suffering. The art of ignoring the person next to us while "uh-huh"ing and "yea"ing is nearing perfection. It's so annoying to have to ignore the person next to you while concentrating on that all important person on the other end of the cellular connection.
Maybe the ultimate luxury would be to leave the airport, get rid of the cellular shackle and go to that person. You know, get close physically. Or would that even work? Can we conquer our cellular addiction? Would we enjoy a personal chat with a living, breathing companion? Or would we feel the need to chat on our phones no matter who else is in the room? I wonder............
